It's raining so here is one from the past

This walk was from back in February, it was freezing fog but it meant some interesting photographs. I took these with my iphone 4.

Freezing fog accentuated with the snapseed app

Frosty cobweb

This pony is so nosey every time I walk past his field.

Bedford cemetery and park

I am working my way through Victorian cemeteries and the one in Bedford is lovely and spacious. I took a walk round with my camera...

I saw a cheeky crow with white specked wings.

The entrance to the cemetery, it is still open for internment and is looked after by volunteers and the council.

I also walked round the local park that is right next door.

Lovely bandstand, unfortunately all locked up, to prevent vandals.

Small island in the small lake, there are waterfalls on both sides.

Ducklings

More cheeky crows, these ones were after someone's picnic and were getting very close but sidled off whenever I tried to take a close-up picture, should have kept some of my lunch to entice them closer!

St Ippolyts

Today I went on a smaller 9.3 km (5 1/2 mile) walk to St. Ippolyts.

I walked from Wymondley to Sperberry Hill at the bottom of which is some lovely private park land.

Fortunately the parkland has a little footpath which although fenced does go through and takes you up to the little parish church at the top of the hill.

There has been a church here for over 900 years, the current one was built in the mid nineteenth century using old stone from the abandoned Missendon chapel.

View of the church from the village green.

Ponies at Ashbrook on the way back.

Last minute walk

As the sun was shining I decided to go on a local walk today. I live in Hertfordshire and there is some lovely local countryside.

Cute bridge over the old mill stream.

The stream flows under and by the railway so lots of interesting structures.

Destroying the countryside so trains can turn round!

Colourful beehives (?) by the stream.

Gerry's Hole is a conservation area maintained by the local landowner. It exists due to the soil that was excavated to build the train track in the 1980's. Its named after a local man who drowned there after a visit to his local! It is currently a very important habitat for frogs and newts.

Chalk hills and farm land.

I also spotted a muntjac deer but was not fast enough with my camera.

Back to the meadow and stream at the start of the 8 (and a bit) mile loop.

Zakk waiting for my return!

Grafham Water

Today I went for a 10 mile trek in the sunshine round Grafham Waters in Cambridgeshire...

We went round clockwise and the first part of the walk is walled off from the reservoir but quite a good view over it. Fishermen are allowed onto the concreted area (its such a pity walkers are not). The route then moves away from the water, through a little wooded area and then along a road leading into the village of Perry.

On the way into Perry we spotted a Buzzard flying over the road and then commented on the large murder of crows as we spotted a road named "Crow Spinney Lane" near the Wheatsheaf pub.

On the next part we had to walk through another quaint village, and we came past a farm with a strange resident..

Then back down towards the water for another short while before more woods and then back to the amenities area

It felt almost like being by the sea as the wind was creating waves so we sat by the shore for a bit.

It was a gorgeous day but a bit disappointing as to how much of the walk is actually on roads and not very near the water (all though there was some lovely woodlands and fields).

Muddy :)

I will definitely be going back someday but would either take a bike or a picnic as the amenities were not great especially as one of the 2 cafes was shut!
